Lorena Alvarez

About

Lorena Álvarez is a pianist, composer, music producer, and DJ. Her work bridges classical, jazz, electronic music, and audiovisual experimentation. Since 2010, she has performed and recorded in the jazz and classical scenes, and since 2012, she has taught piano, harmony, theory, and improvisation. She is currently a piano instructor at FOJI.

As Lorelei, her solo electronic music project, she has released music through Panal, NOAF, and Navegante Records, remixed artists like Chicarica and BVHA, and collaborated with producers including Alejandro Paz and Diegors. As a DJ, she has played at festivals like DGTL, Boiler Room, Womad, and Piknic Électronik, and is a resident at Din Daa Daa, a party dedicated to house music and its roots.

She co-founded the bands Los Bárbara Blade and Cuerpo Docente, and is part of the free improvisation duo Lorena Álvarez & Alejandro Palacios, with whom she toured Europe in 2023 and released music through U.S. labels Not Not Fun and Dream Chimney.

She composes for audiovisual, stage, and installation projects, and is currently researching the interaction between real-world data and sound using Max/MSP, sensors, and real-time audio processing.

Lorena holds a bachelor in Music Theory and Piano from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where she studied with Mario Alarcón, completed a diploma in Composition and Arranging at Projazz, and studied Film Scoring at Berklee with Tim Huling.
